PLEASE READ ALL OF THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW BEFORE STARTING:
YOU ARE NOT PERMITTED TO MISS ANY CLASS TO AUDITION
1. All students will audition on the same piece: HAYBURNER
2. If you do not wish to audition, that is totally ok, however, you will be assigned automatically to BIG BAND.
3. This is a Count Basie classic and your part is the original music the Basie Band played on the album Basie Straight Ahead. Basie had several arrangements of this tune and your parts are exact with a slight exception at the end. That means your part will not necessarily line up with the recording for the last 4 bars.
4. All students will play along with the recording for their audition.
5. Which recording? This one - HAYBURNER - NEW LINK thanks to Nick B.
6. All altos will audition on Alto 1. All tenors on Tenor 3. All trumpets on Trumpet 1 (any part that is too high for you can be played down the octave). All trombones on Trombone 1 with the exception of those students wishing to audition for bass bone - in that case you will audition on Bone 4. Auxiliary players - Vibes may interpret the piano part and Aux percussion can take a drum part and add to it conga or whatever with the goal of impressing me.
7. Auditions will begin on June 9 and run until the 13th. All people who audition will be considered for LTJO or SR Jazz. If you do not audition you will be placed in BIG BAND.
8. It is expected that you will select a time during your band class time to minimize disruptions. That said, I will make time available after school or before school for exceptions.
9. All people auditioning must sign up on the "SIGN UPI SHEET" posted in the band room.
10. AN HONEST PIECE OF ADVICE - I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO NOT PRACTICE IN GROUPS!!!!! I HAVE NEVER SEEN A SUCCESSFUL AUDITION FROM SOMEONE WHO DID.
11. Learn your part 1st and listen to the recording lots.... then try playing along.
12. Auditioning does not guarantee placement in LTJO or Sr. Jazz.
ANY QUESTIONS? PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO ASK.
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE.
RESULTS WILL BE POSTED THE WEEK OF JUNE 16TH.
